The Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida Link

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is something that is often mistaken for another condition. Though Colitis and Crohn’s Disease also affects the same areas, they are not the same thing. IBS is often something that is diagnosed after all other possibilities are exhausted. It can sometimes be associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and there are some theories that suggest a strong Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida link, but there are others that refute this.

IBS varies in degrees from person to person. Some have severe cases that greatly diminish their quality of life, whereas others just have episodes on occasion.

Those with the mild form may have some life interruption, but many times this is just a minor inconvenience. IBS is often down to abnormal activity with the muscles of the intestinal walls. Stress and eating the wrong foods are common triggers, and can lead to diarrhea or constipation, cramps, sweating, bloating, gas, pain. Having a bowel movement doesn’t always relieve the cramping and pain either.

There has yet to be a cause pinpointed for this atypical behavior in the intestines. What is known is that the spastic muscle movements will trigger a series of symptoms, and bouts can last a few hours to a few weeks.

Some believe that IBS might be triggered or even caused by the overgrowth of the Candida yeast that seems to be so prevalent. Though many have it in their systems, most with healthy immune systems and who don’t have any other conditions have no problem keeping it in check.

The body normally contains candida where it will not do any harm. However, when the immune system is compromised in anyway, Candida can grow, and begin to cause problems throughout the body. Because it is often found in the intestines, it would make sense that it might contribute to bouts of IBS in some people.

A person who suspects that they might have an Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida problem should talk to their doctor about treatment. However, it should be noted that there are some medical professionals who do not believe Candida is the problem that many make it out to be. Some doctors may be reluctant to see a connection between the two conditions, as they do not believe Candida can cause any type of medical problem.

They might offer you other types of treatment, but when it comes to IBS, there aren’t many options. If a person really feels they have an Irritable Bowel Syndrome Candida problem they should go find another doctor for a second opinion. If a medical doctor cannot be found that will help with this, you can always try to find someone well versed in Chinese medicine to help out. Do You Need An Ultrasound For Endometriosis?

Endometriosis can be a tricky thing to find because it doesn’t often show up when ultrasound and x-rays are done, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t use these means to find it. There are some doctors who are really good at using ultrasound for detecting endometriosis, though even they will miss it at times. It often depends on the severity of the cases, where it is located, and if other conditions can be eliminated from consideration. While ultrasound for endometriosis can be a useful tool, it might often miss what is really going on.

The most common type of ultrasound used for detecting endometriosis is vaginal, but a rectal ultrasound may be used as well. This means a wand is inserted into the vagina (or rectum). A scanner is then moved across the belly. The sound waves that are used will form a picture or video of the area.

The pictures can then be studied for some of the signs of this condition. The most common things that ultrasounds can find are the nodules that form as a sign of the condition, and sometimes scar tissue can be noted if it is there. This is not only done on the reproductive area, but might also be used to find endometriosis that has spread to the colon or other areas nearby.

This procedure usually does not take very long, and many doctors that specialize in childbirth and fertility have the necessary equipment right in their office. This procedure can usually be done right then and there on site, though you may have to make an appointment with a technician. It is also a pretty straight forward and fast procedure, and in most cases, it causes almost no pain, though there might be some discomfort if the wand is put into the vagina or rectum for the procedure.

Ultrasound normally comes after a physical examination is done, and there are unanswered questions about what the cause of your problems is. Though there are times when the ultrasound will easily detect the presence of endometriosis, there is also the possibility that the ultrasound will fail.

Either way, after this procedure is completed, a patient might then be scheduled for laparoscopy. This involves a small, lighted camera that is inserted in through the belly button or through small incisions near the pubic area. This can be used for a closer view of your reproductive or internal organs. The places affected can then be treated after a biopsy of any suspicious tissues is done.

Some doctors might view ultrasound for endometriosis as a standard part of the search for the condition, while others may think it is not effective enough to be relied upon. Most will still do it, as there is always hope they may notice something this way. Either way, a person should remember that just because there was nothing found via the ultrasound, that does not mean that they do not have endometriosis. Further evaluation should always be done to be sure.

Do You Have Birth Control High Blood Pressure Concerns?

Birth control high blood pressure symptoms can be a problem for women taking certain types of hormonal contraceptives. The two birth control methods that pose the most risk include the birth control pill and the birth control patch.

However, not every woman who uses these methods of birth control will experience high blood pressure, as there are many factors involved that generally determine the degree of risk each woman faces.

Nevertheless, the reason why hormonal birth control high blood pressure risk exists, is because these contraceptives contain progestins. Progestin is a type if drug that mirrors the activity of the hormone progesterone which naturally occurs in the female body.

It is common for progestin to slightly raise the blood pressure in most women who take hormonal birth control, and it is the cause of high blood pressure when it occurs.

The risk of birth control causing high blood pressure increases for a woman based on the following factors:

 Age – As a woman ages (usually mid 35 and older), her chances of developing high blood pressure increases.  Duration of use – The longer a woman uses the pill or patch, the greater the chances of high blood pressure occurring.  Pre-existing condition – Women who have previously experienced episodes of consistent high blood pressure, even only if it was during pregnancy, are at a greater risk.  Family history – Women who have a family history of hypertension could be at a greater risk.  Obesity – a woman who is obese has a greater risk of developing high blood pressure.

Hormonal contraception is one of the most convenient and effective methods of birth control, but it is a fact that high blood pressure occurs 2- 3 times more frequently in women who take hormonal contraceptives than those who use other methods.

Therefore, if you take the pill or are using the patch - regardless if you have any of the above increased risk factors or not - have your doctor check your blood pressure every year.

Should you discover you have developed high blood pressure, you should stop taking hormonal contraceptives and seek out other birth control methods. Once off the pill or the patch, your blood pressure should return to normal within 3 to 6 months.

Keep in mind that although you can take hormonal methods of birth control if you have high blood pressure that is being regulated with medications, you will need to have your blood pressure closely monitored by your doctor. Nonetheless, it is strongly advised that anyone who had, has, or is at a greater risk of developing high blood pressure, use other birth control methods.

The following are safe methods of birth control that doesn’t put a woman at high blood pressure risk:

 Barrier birth control methods – condoms, diaphragm, sponge, cervical cap. Each of these methods is disposed of after sexual intercourse.  Birth control injection – DepoProvera is a shot containing synthetic progestin (different from the pill and patch) administered via a needle every three months. DepoProvera a long-term method of birth control.  Birth control implant - Norplant is a progestin capsule that is inserted into the upper arm and lasts for 5 years. An IUD (intrauterine device) is a T-shaped device that is inserted into the uterus (and can last a year or 10 years depending on the type) and is very effective at preventing pregnancy. The IUD is recommended for those women who are in a long-term monogamous relationship.

Keep in mind that even though the above do not directly impact high blood pressure, the shots and implants do have side effects, and none of the above contraception (including the pill and patch), except for the condom, prevent the transmission of STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases). Therefore, make sure you discuss your contraceptive options with your health care provider if birth control high blood pressure is a risk factor for you.

Though the crystallization of uric acid in the joints is the cause of gout, it is not something that will be obvious right away. The signs and symptoms may or may not show up for years before pain is felt. There are some signs symptoms gout sufferers might experience that might not be thought of as part of this condition right away, and are often related to a painful flare up.

Gout may not be diagnosed until flare up occurs. Many times they will show up and be confused with something else before more telling signs show, and a doctor then might know to look for gout.

A doctor will test for high levels of uric acid and the crystals that they form. This is a blood test. These crystals might then be located in the joints, and this is most common in the big toe. There will be tenderness around any joints that are involved, and there may be skin problems. Movement of involved joints may very well be painful.

A patient will know they are having a gout attack when they feel pain in the affected joints. This might be very severe pain that is accompanied by stiffness. The joint might feel hot to the touch and extremely tender.

When the signs symptoms gout produces appear, and it is obvious a flare up is occurring, a person should lie down and rest as much as possible. It is important to keep weight off of the joint. Ice or heat might help with the pain, and something like ibuprofen can be taken for inflammation. Once someone is sure they are experiencing a bout of gout, they should call their doctor for advice and the possibility of a prescription if needed.

If you are one of the 19 million who will join a health club in the next four years, there are some simple criteria and steps that will help you make the right choice.

Criteria For Choosing A Health Club

1) Location
- Choose a health club that isn’t too far from home and work so that you don’t have an extra excuse not to go. Think about how far you are comfortable driving for other tasks in your life such as the grocery store or the dry cleaners. Choose a club that is located within your driving comfort area, and you’ll be more likely to add a trip to the gym into your daily or weekly routine.

2) Programs
- Examine your fitness goals and preferences, and choose a club that offers what you desire. If you need to lose weight, choose a club that offers programs on weight loss and nutrition. If you enjoy swimming and tennis but don’t want to perfect your dead-lift technique, a local swim and tennis club or YMCA might be right for you.

l) How much does membership cost? What are the opt-out policies? What are billing cycles?

3) Get A Temporary Pass
- Most gyms will grant a two week pass upon request. Get as many days as you can for free, and use the gym just as you would if you were a new member. Does the location work with your routine? Are there any pieces of equipment you wish you could use? Are there classes that fit your schedule?

4) Follow Through
- Once you have signed up for your membership, it is your responsibility to get yourself to the gym. Some clubs offer buddy systems, personal trainers or group classes that will keep you motivated to work out. It might be worth an extra initial investment to ensure that you will visit the gym regularly once you are a member.

One reason gym membership has soared in the past few years is that there is a wide variety of fitness clubs. Violent Shooter Video Games Help Eye Health

Master Chief, Marcus Fenix, and Doomguy are here to help us once again. Playing Gears of War, Doom, Halo and other first person shooter video games can improve your eyesight, new research claims. You heard me right. Scientists FINALLY have something good to say about video games. I almost fell off my chair when I read this the first time.

Most aspects of vision have to do with the size of one’s eye and the thickness and shape of the cornea and lens. But some visual defects are neural in nature according to a new study on vision and video games published in the journal Psychological Today. First person shooter gains strengthen the cornea over time causing improved vision.

The study involved ten male college students who started out as non-gamers and only played video games occasionally. They then received over thirty hours of training on first-person shooter action video games such as Halo. The students showed a significant increase in their ability to see objects accurately in a cluttered space compared to ten non-gamers given the same test, said a leading psychological expert.

A first-person shooter, also referred to as an FPS, is a genre of video games which is characterized by an on-screen view that simulates the in-game character’s point of view and a focus on the use of handheld ranged weapons. FPS is also a term used by tactical response teams as the person who shoots first.

First-person shooter action games helped study subjects improve their spatial resolution, meaning their ability to clearly see small, closely packed together objects, such as letters, she said. Sure, Gears of War or Resident Evil are actually third-person shooters, they showed similar positive results as the true first-person shooters did.

Game-playing actually changes the way our brains process visual information. These games push the human visual system to the limits, and the brain adapts to it. That learning carries over into other activities and possibly everyday life.

Similar findings also suggests that playing first-person shooter action video games could be a useful rehabilitation therapy for people with certain vision problems, she said, such as lazy eye and the simple effects of aging, such as Alzheimer’s disease, according to a study done by Popular Science.

So, I’m giving an up yours to you, Mario and Luigi and another big screw you to you, John Madden. Thanks to you guys our country might have gone blind or worse yet we would all have lazy eyes! I’ll stick with my main bro’s, Master Chief and Marcus Fenix any day of the week regardless of health issues, and while I’m at it, I’m canceling my eye doctor appointment. So what is RSI?

RSI (also known as repetitive stress injury or repetitive strain injury) is a very common problem throughout the world today. Although a very widespread problem, it is also a preventable and treatable problem. Probably the most common form of RSI that you are familiar with is carpal tunnel syndrome. Many people become afflicted with this condition throughout the world each year and many people successfully treat and recover from it as well. The key is really knowing how to prevent and taking measures to prevent it.

The best way to prevent becoming afflicted with some form of RSI is also the quickest and easiest as well… and that is just listening and being in tune with your body. If you start developing pains in certain parts of your body while you are at work stop doing what causes the pain and find out why. The early warning signs of the potential onset of RSI are of course a continuing pain in the affected part of your body. More often than not this is in the neck, back, upper arms and shoulders. If the condition continues to advance and be ignored you may begin to experience tingling and even numbness and you could also begin to lose your grip if the hands, arms, or wrists are affected. You need to make certain that when you are hurting that your answer is not to try to just work through it. In and of itself, RSI is very treatable, but if you ignore what your body is trying to tell you, you could be in for some surgery and then physical therapy which could result in some serious down time.

The easiest and most readily available treatment for the symptoms of RSI is you. If you begin to feel twinges of pain, the first action you should take is to make sure that you begin to take breaks from the repetitive task that you are performing. More frequent and shorter breaks are more beneficial than less frequent and longer. While you are on your break, that the time to do some simple stretching exercises center around the area that has developed the twinge.

If your job involves sitting in a chair for long periods of time pay special attention to your posture. In fact, if you are on your feet all day long make sure your work station is ergonomically correct and everything is at the proper height for your body style so your posture is correct when working on the floor or the line.

If your daily activities put your body in a repetitive situation take the time to evaluate both your body and your environment. With RSI, there is absolutely no need for the condition to advance to the point of surgery and down time.

If you being experiencing pains and other warning signs, check with your doctor and your employer (if at work) and get the situation to the forefront. More often than not early intervention coupled with taking breaks and some daily stretching is all that one needs to relieve the pains of RSI.

Ergonomics to Help With RSI

There are several computer related ergonomics that can assist and help ease the discomfort from repetitive stress injury.

The first place to start if you are one that has to sit a computer for extended periods of time would be for you to change the type of keyboard that you use. Ergonomic keyboards are the ones that are split in the middle which allow for a more comfortable and natural reach for the keys. Or you can get a raised keyboard that puts your writs in a more comfortable and natural position for you as you type.

Also available is a vertical and split keyboard that keeps your hands in the ‘handshake’ position as you type for optimal physical positioning. This type of specialty keyboard is currently rather pricey. For a more cost effective approach you should visit your local office store and check for the various computer ergonomic devices that pad and help keep your joints in the proper position to guard against repetitive stress injury.

Next up to evaluate is your chair. Is it comfortable, sturdy, and conducive to you sitting with proper posture? If not, you should purchase one that is and does promote good posture. Maintaining good posture as you type goes a long way toward preventing the onset of the pain associated with repetitive stress injury.

If you type excessively and still battle against those twinges of pain in the hands and wrists, you should take a serious look at voice recognition software. Today, the technology of voice recognition software is quite acceptable and, in fact, is very much faster than conventional typing. Also, depending upon your needs, you should look at alternative pointing devices instead of using the convention computer mouse.

Also, don’t forget about the desk or table that your monitor sits upon. Getting an adjustable set up is ideal as you can adjust the height of your workstation to perfectly fit your body style.

Speaking of the monitor make sure you don’t skip on your monitor. Make sure you get one that displays the font clearly and doesn’t glare on your eyes; thus making it easier on your eyes and reducing your eye strain.

A nice to have is also a footrest. This is an often overlooked item for the computer workstation; but a nice footrest can make a world of difference for your comfort and your posture. You can even find them that have roller balls so you can gently massage your feet during the course of your time sitting at the computer.

But no matter what you have for the hardware configuration around your computer workstation the number one rule in preventing repetitive stress injury is to take frequent short breaks away from your computer work station and do some light stretching. These to tips alone can save you from ever having to deal with the pain from repetitive stress injury.
