Steps to Help Your Asthma Attacks

Every day around the world, millions of people have trouble breathing. This is usually caused by asthma, and it prevents people from having active lives. There are many ways to help people live with asthma, however no one has known how to cure it completely, until now. We will look at some ways to alleviate asthma attacks, and give you the solution to cure asthma. Hopefully you realize by reading this article that you can avoid the need to resort to extreme measures to alleviate your asthma.

Asthma control medicines have improved dramatically in recent years; they’ve had to, especially when you consider the statistics about asthma and it’s effect on modern society.

If you are an sufferer, then for many of you, your inhalers are a special part of your lives; a safety net if you like when symptoms begin "to rear their ugly heads." Many people believe they are in control however, if you are using your inhaler several times a week then are you really in control of asthma.

Monitoring Asthma Symptoms

Consider these facts and ascertain what level of control you have over asthma:

- have you had to use your inhalers several times a week?

- have symptoms such as tightness in the chest and breathlessness as well as coughing at night been a factor at least three times a week?

- have symptoms prevented you from completing regular activities?

If the above scenarios are dominating your life, then asthma control may not really be present as you would like it.

What Can You Do To Better Control Asthma?

While controller medicines "can knock symptoms on the head" when they begin to emerge, while they are effective, they are really only delaying the onset of the next asthma attack. You need to be a little more diligent and a little more preventative conscious. Try the following to gain better control of asthma.

1. Take a few minutes and write down the triggers which are common with an attack.

2. Underline those which seem associated with the emergence of symptoms in your case. Be honest here as it’s important you identify correctly which ones seem to be a factor every time an attack is imminent.

3. Make an appointment to see your doctor and take your list with you.

4. Discuss with your doctor those triggers you’ve underlined and what they are associated with. A plan of action can then be determined so you can avoid as much as possible your asthma triggers.

When making your list, you may be surprised at how long it can get. Asthma triggers are everywhere but what affects one person may not affect another. Make sure to be truthful in your initial assessment.

Asthma control medicines certainly play an important part in the overall monitoring game. Your doctor will consider those triggers which affect you and draft up a plan which will suit your day-to-day living. Once a plan has been devised, it will be up to you to follow it. By staying away from the triggers which seem to effect you, living as free as you possibly can from asthma can become a reality.

The above step-by-step plan won’t cure asthma but can certainly give you better control.

Eating The Right Food for Acid Reflux is Critical - Find Out What the Right Food for Acid Reflux Is

Heartburn, another name for acid reflux involves a poor balance between the acid that is supposed to be in the stomach and the acid that ends up in the esophagus. There is certain food for acid reflux that can reduce your overall risk of getting the disorder.

Acid reflux affects not just adults; infants and children are affected as well and the symptoms of the disease can be stopped through medication, lifestyle changes and eating the right food for acid reflux.

Foods such as citrus foods, chocolate, tomato products, spicy and fatty foods can really contribute to acid reflux disease. If eating these foods occur at certain times of the day or are associated with excess weight, the signs and symptoms of acid reflux are worse. The trick to reducing heartburn symptoms involves managing your diet to avoid the triggering food for acid reflux.

If you have acid reflux, take a look at your diet to see which things you’re eating that are already triggering acid reflux in the diet. Avoiding those foods will do a lot to restore order to the gastrointestinal system without even considering medications or other measures.

Next consider those things that actually lower your risk of acid reflux. Consider acid-reflux-free recipes that are best suited to those who have heartburn symptoms.

It was once thought that drinking milk can be a quick fix for acid reflux symptoms. The reality is that, while it works well in the beginning, it is not a good food for acid reflux. Eventually it causes more acid to build up in the stomach and heartburn worsens.

The best choice for a heartburn-free lifestyle is to follow a small, frequently eaten diet that doesn’t fill the stomach up so much at one time. Consider a small snack, like crackers, before going to sleep so that the stomach has a bit of food to soak up excess acid in the stomach but not so much to put pressure on the sphincter between the stomach and the esophagus

In addition, diets rich in complex carbohydrates like breads, rice and pasta can avoid having too much acid in the esophagus. Make sure that you chew your food well and don’t hurry the eating process. Try to eat over a period of twenty or so minutes so that the saliva in your food can partially digest the food and make it easy for food to digest in the stomach. Along with the foods to eat with acid reflux, try to remain upright for at least 45 minutes after you finish eating.

Reduce the amount of high-fat food in your diet, too. This will keep food in your stomach longer so that the stomach acids can be digested greater and the lower esophageal sphincter will be tighter.

Large meals are bad for the stomach because it creates more stomach acid in the stomach that can get up inside the esophagus. Plant proteins like beans and lentils will replace animal proteins and can reduce reflux symptoms.

Pay attention to how much you are eating and how fast you are eating. Relax while you eat and enjoy six small meals a day rather than 3-4 big ones. This breaks up the meal and lowers the pressure inside the stomach. In this way, the foods to eat with acid reflux aren’t as important as when and how you eat them.

For more on food for acid reflux, visit with your doctor to get a list of the proper foods to eat and those you should avoid. You can also see a naturopath or a dietitian/nutritionist who will provide you with the information you need on eating right with acid reflux disease.

5 Fat Burners To Help You Slim Down

It is definitely possible to speed up your metabolism, that aspect of your body that burns calories. As you age, your metabolism slows down, chiefly because you lose around a half pound of muscle each year. "If you don’t use the muscle, it atrophies," explains Pamela Peeke, M.D., professor of medicine at the University of Maryland and author of Fight Fat After Forty.

Here are 5 fat burners to help you slim down.

1. Avoid alcohol

Want to keep your favorite meals from going straight to your hips (thighs, belly)? Wash them down with water, not wine. Alcohol slows your metabolism by depressing the central nervous system. A British study found that when alcohol was added to a high-fat, high-calorie meal, less dietary fat was burned off and more was stored as body fat.

2. Rev up your workouts

Interval training — in which you add bursts of high-intensity moves into your workout — is a surefire metabolism booster, says Glenn Gaesser, Ph.D., director of the Kinesiology Program at the University of Virginia and author of The Spark. Researchers at Laval University in Quebec found that high-intensity interval training burns more fat than regular, consistent aerobic exercise. If you usually jog at a 10-minute-mile pace, for example, add a 30-second sprint every five minutes. Or add a one-minute incline to your treadmill workout every five minutes. "Even if you just have 10 minutes for a quick workout, you can walk at a normal pace and then add in a 30-second bout of speed-walking every three minutes," recommends Gaesser.

3. Do more dairy

Women who ate low-fat dairy products, such as nonfat yogurt and low-fat cheese, three to four times a day lost 70 percent more fat than low-dairy dieters, according to a study published in the journal Obesity Research. "Calcium serves as a switch that tells your body to burn excess fat faster," explains study author Michael Zemel, M.D., director of the Nutrition Institute at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Sorry, but you won’t reap the same benefits from calcium-fortified O.J. Research shows that you get the best results from dairy products themselves, not fortified foods. Aim for 1,200 mg, which includes about three servings of dairy a day.

4. Take up a new sport

Are you like Old Faithful when it comes to your morning walk or evening jog? Know this: The more you do an activity, the more your body adapts to it, so you burn fewer calories. If you want to light a fire under your metabolism, consider cross-training. For example, if you normally walk, try biking instead. "Since you’re not used to working all those different muscles, it’s a more intense workout, which can translate into a greater metabolic after-burn because your body is working harder to recover and get oxygen to all your tissues," says Carol Espel, M.S., an exercise physiologist for Equinox Fitness Clubs in New York City.

5. Go fish

Break out the lemon wedges: Regular fish eaters tend to have lower levels of the hormone leptin — good because high levels of leptin have been linked to low metabolism and obesity, says Louis Aronne, M.D., an obesity specialist at the New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center. Try to consume three to four servings of a fatty fish, such as salmon, tuna or mackerel, each week.

Understand Types of Dialysis

KIDNEY BASICS:

Kidneys are made up of millions of tiny filters. Kidneys clean the blood and make urine.

Functions: Kidneys Removes Waste – Balance Body Fluids- Control Blood Pressure – Make Red Blood Cells and keeps Bone Healthy. When Dialysis fails, these functions have to be replaced by Dialysis + Diet + Medication.

Symptoms of Organ(Kidney Dysfunction):

- Sickness, Confused and Nauseous when kidneys cannot remove wastes.

- Tired and Breathing problems and have swelling when kidney cannot Balance Body Fluid

What is Dialysis?

Dialysis is mechanism which does a function of Kidney: It uses membrane inside your body called “Peritoneum”. The Peritoneum forms a sac inside body. In Peritoneal Dialysis, this sac is filled with special solution, which comes in flexible bags.

Understand Dialysis and its Types:

For filling in and draining out the solution, you need to have a catheter. This catheter is a soft tube made up of special rubber. The Catheter is placed in the peritoneum by small surgical procedure. It is made up of silicon rubber which does not react with anything. It has two Decron Cuffs which holds it in place inside body.

The peritoneum has holes and rich blood supply which works like filter and cleans the blood. The wall of Peritoneum has “Pores” and “Holes”. It has lot of blood vessels around it. The wall separates the blood from solution, the “holes” allow small particles to pass through. The waste products pass from Blood into Dialysis solution through Peritoneum. This process is called as Diffusion i.e It is like everything tries to go from more crowded to less crowded place. Waste products are more crowded in the blood, so they pass into dialysis solution through the peritoneum.

The solution has sugar: Dextrose or Glucose in it. It is nature of Glucose to attract water. The extra water in blood is pulled out by glucose which is called as “Osmosis”. Osmosis is caused by glucose dissolved in dialysis solution.

The solution of Glucose or Dextrose comes in bags with normally different concentration i.e. 3.86%,2.27% and 1.36%. The same termed as Strong, Medium and Small. The stronger bag removes more water from the blood. High percentage denotes more strength.

This removal process of water from blood stops after few hours. Both the sides (blood and Solution) equally crowded. No waste can pass from blood into dialysis solution. The glucose leaves the solution and goes into blood by diffusion over period of time as it can no longer remove waste from blood. Hence, after few hours, you have to drain out the old solution and fill it in new solution to start cleaning process all over again.

Exchange Process: The following situation leads to draining of Old Solution and filling of New solution and is called exchange. Doctors shall prescribe number of exchanges you need to do in agricultural day.

When you do all exchanges on time, dialysis is taking place continuously, which is just like functioning of KIDNEYS.

THERE ARE MAINLY TWO TYPES OF CONTINUOUS DIALYSIS

CAPD: CONTINUOUS AMBULATORY PERITONIAL DIALYSIS,br> CCPD: CONTINUOUS CYCLIC PERITONIAL DIALYSIS

CAPD: This is methodology wherein you do Dialysis yourself. You are free between Dialysis.

CCPD: The machine does it for you while you sleep.

Optimal Performance With This Stress-Busting Natural Stimulant

Eleuthero herb extract, or Siberian Ginseng, is just one of the many herbal supplements that so-called "experts" will tell you that you don’t need.

And if you get a regular eight hours of unbroken good quality sleep a night; always eat a well balanced diet supplying all the nutrients your body needs; find your employment or business life both personally and financially rewarding; and take regular time out for relaxing breaks and vacations, those experts are probably right.

But if you’re like most of us, your life’s a long way from this ideal. Likely you find that our culture’s obsession with work and 24/7 activity all militate against your getting anywhere close to the amount of quality sleep and nutrition you need.

Now, this isn’t going to make you ill right away. It may be years before you notice any specific physical symptoms. But you may well already be aware of a vague feeling that you somehow lack the energy to enjoy all that you want out of life. Physicians see this kind of pre-clinical malaise so often that they simply label it "TATT" ("Tired All The Time"). Not that doctors aren’t sympathetic; but the problem is that short of recommending a major and completely impractical overhaul of your entire lifestyle there’s really very little they can do for you.

You see, conventional Western medicine is primarily geared to producing a specific "magic bullet" treatment for each specific ailment with which it is presented. And to be fair, it does this extremely effectively for many previously dangerous or even fatal illnesses. But it’s much less good at providing what you need to prevent you from becoming ill in the first place.

That’s to say a powerful tonic and stimulant for every system in your body which will not only protect you against disease, but optimise every aspect of your physical and mental performance. Luckily, substances which contain this power do exist and are known as adaptogens, a term coined in Russia in 1947 to describe compounds found to help normalise the body’s functions and increase its resistance to all kinds of stress. One in particular, eleuthero herb extract (also known as Siberian Ginseng) has been extensively studied by Soviet and Russian scientists since the early 1960s.

And the power of this remarkable plant has been known in China for at least 2,000 years, where it is still widely used in keeping with the general emphasis of Chinese medicine on prevention rather than cure.

In Russia, eleuthero was approved for human use as early as 1962 and many subsequent scientific studies have examined its effect upon thousands of individuals of all ages.

These studies have shown a significant improvement in individuals’ adaptogenic response to all kinds of stresses, including heat, cold, excessive noise and vibration, physical exhaustion, viruses, bacteria and pollution. In fact, so many and diverse have been the positive effects that you could almost say that eleuthero improves adaptation to the stresses of life itself. Not surprisingly, therefore, the herb quickly became, and remains, extremely popular with the Russian public.

Eleuthero is also a traditional Chinese folk remedy for bronchitis, all kinds of heart and circulatory problems, rheumatism and male infertility to name but a few. And more recent Russian studies have confirmed its potential benefits in tackling cardiac disease, disorders of the circulatory system, blood pressure problems, diabetes and even cancer. Now it’s important to stress that eleuthero is not claimed as a cure for these conditions, but that the herb extract performs the essential function of the adaptogen – stimulating the body’s natural healing processes to restore it to normal function.

But eleuthero is not just for those who are already drifting towards illness. It’s also used extensively by individuals whose occupations subject their bodies and minds to levels of stress that those of us living "normal" lives can only imagine. Cosmonauts, deep-sea divers, soldiers, explorers, mountain rescue teams and elite athletes are just a few of the groups of such people who have experienced the benefits.

So the great twin benefits of eleuthero are that it seems to help the drive towards optimal mental and physical performance; while also giving mind and body the best possible chance of resisting the stresses that are systematically breaking down the health of so many millions in the affluent Western world.

Gym Germs

Over recent years Health centres, gymnasiums and dance centres have become a regular and popular routine for many fitness gurus. Yet, these seemingly healthy environments can be a mecca for multiplying germs and can become a breeding ground for illnesses and infections.

The gym environment is the ideal breeding area for many germs. The warm moist air from hot, sweating bodies is the perfect environment for incubating and multiplying bugs. The gym and fitness room equipment provide an ideal environment in which these bugs can thrive. For example, barbells, fitness dance poles, safety mats and even gym towels can house these infectious germs.

The human body is the main transport system for these germs. Your hands can easily be contaminated without you even knowing and pass them to anything you touch.

Most cold and flu viruses are passed by droplets from a person’s mouth or nose. If these are present on gym equipment they can easily infect the next person to use the equipment.

There are four major micro-organisms (germs) which are common in fitness centres and gymnasiums:

Bacteria – These single-celled organisms which include, staphylococcus aureus and streptococci. These can cause skin infections. The germ is easily transmitted to another person and can cause serious illnesses such as; pneumonia

Fungi – A single-celled organism which is slightly more complex than a bacteria cell. This microorganism thrives in areas of moisture and warmth. Any of these unwanted germs can cause fungal infections such as; athletes foot. Each person is affected by a fungal infection differently than another, yet all infections are uncomfortable and can be easily prevented with good personal hygiene.

Protozoa – A single-celled organism e.g. Giardia, commonly found in hot tubs, whirlpools and swimming pools which are poorly sanitized. These are the rarest form of infectious agent found in gym areas.

Viruses – These are the most complex of micro-organisms and require a host in order to survive. These are passed via human contact and cause illnesses such as; the influenza virus and the common cold.

Health and Safety – Employers or owners of gymnasiums, dance clubs and the like have a duty to ensure that any customer or employee are safe during their time of leisure or employment. Customers may come into contact with harmful or infectious micro-organisms on a daily basis at any gymnasium or fitness centre, therefore, the risk of contamination from equipment or close contact with other customers also increases on a daily basis. Thus it is the responsibility of the owners of the club or fitness centre to ensure the health and safety of any customer or employee by following strict health and safety regulations.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states:

Section 3 of the act - “places general duties upon employers and the self-employed to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of anyone not in their employment who are likely to be affected by their undertaking”.

So if you are a teacher, instructor, or responsible for gym or fitness equipment then you will need to ensure you keep the equipment free from harmful gym germs.

The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 states:

Section 3 of the act - “places general duties upon employers and the self-employed to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health and safety of anyone not in their employment who are likely to be affected by their undertaking”.

For cleaning many of these gym germs we would recommend to keep all equipment and gym areas fully maintained and cleaned regularly. We would recommend an anti bacterial and anti fungi solution. We have fitness dance poles that are regularly used by students and gym users for pole dancing classes. These dance poles are likely to harbour many gym germs. We use a PAL disinfectant probe wipe which is impregnated with a high specification broad spectrum bactericide. Used in both health care and food industry, they are active against bacteria as well as viruses and fungi. These are ideal for use to clean your fitness dance pole. Antibacterial wipes are safe and easy to use before and after pole dancing dance. Especially useful to help control the spread of bacteria and fungi on lap dance poles and other equipment used in gyms, clubs and leisure centers.

Your Diet Cola is Killing You!

Hello Folks,

I am here once again with lots of uplifting good news! Your diet-cola maybe killing you!

You heard that right. If you are drinking any kind of diet cola or drink, any sugar free gum, or any sugar substitute like Equal, Nutrasweet or Spoonful, I got news for you.

This article can save you or your loved ones from serious illnesses like brain tumors, leukemia, Alzheimer’s, multiple sclerosis, diabetes, epilepsy, birth defects, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson’s and many more! So I suggest you start paying attention and share it with as many people as you can.

Ok, here is the background:

The substance that is used to sweeten your diet drink and sugar free foods (including Diet Coke, Diet Pepsi, Kool Aid, Listerine Strips, different sugar free gums etc) is called Aspartame. Aspartame is also the technical name for brand names like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful and other sugar alternatives. Aspartame was discovered by accident in 1965 by a chemist of G.D Searle Company. G.D Searle tried to get approval from the FDA in United States in 1974 but failed due to objections from a neuroscience researcher named Dr John Olney and a consumer attorney named James Turner. For the time being, the FDA put the approval on hold to carry out further investigation. However, aspartame was allowed on 1981 for dry goods and 1983 for carbonated beverages.

Aspartame is, by far, the most dangerous substance on the market that is added to foods. It is responsible for headaches/migraines, heart palpitations, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, depression, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain. According to recent studies it is also responsible for triggering or worsening brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, birth defects, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s, mental retardation, and diabetes.

So why was aspartame approved by the FDA? Well, for many years FDA not only refused to approve it, but took G. D. Searle to court indicting them under Title 18, Section 1001 for "their willful and knowing failure to make reports to the FDA required… and for concealing material facts and making false statements in reports of animal studies conducted to establish the safety of aspartame.” You know why? Because in 1969, Searle conducted a study with Dr Harry Waisman on the effects of aspartame on primates. Seven baby monkeys were given Aspartame in milk. One died after 300 days; five others had grand mal seizures. Searle eliminated these findings when they submitted this study to the FDA!

So that’s pretty huge right? And Searle should have been stopped from producing this dangerous chemical forever right? Unfortunately there was a famous man in this story who had very high stakes in Aspartame.

The CEO of G D Searle at the time was Donald Rumsfeld (retired defense secretary for the Bush administration who de facto led the Iraq war)! Mr Rumsfeld said he would ensure that aspartame gets approved even though the FDA said no. He was also on President Reagan’s transition team at the time. The story of how Rumsfeld accomplished this was told by the attorney James Turner in a documentary on aspartame called "Sweet Misery: A Poisoned World" you can visit the site here http://www.soundandfury.tv/pages/sweet%20misery.html And here is a clip www.soundandfury.tv/pages/Rumsfeld2.html where you can see Mr Turner narrate the story of how greed kills millions of people for years to come!

In 1985, the G.D Searle Company was bought over by Monsanto. The first thing Monsanto did was make the Searle Pharmaceuticals and NutraSweet Company separate subsidiaries. Now Monsanto is also one of the world’s biggest companies that produce genetically modified foods and other chemicals that go into foods and food production. Monsanto is also known for producing pesticides.

Now we are talking about a multi billion dollar industry called the diet drink industry. Just like CFC (which almost destroyed the earths climate because of its long term destructive properties yet was popularized for more than 40 years as the magic chemical that makes money yet is environment friendly, until we had the Ozone Hole) and Trans-fats (that clog your arteries and makes you obese and responsible for numerous other diseases yet millions of people around the world are eating KFC), Aspartame also is very preciously protected because its HIGHLY PROFITABLE! In 1992 the Flying Safety Magazine published articles about the dangers of Aspartame and mentioned that some people could be immediately affected by Aspartame with as small doses as a chewing gum.

And here is the most interesting piece of information:

Major airline pilots are not allowed drink or consume Aspartame containing goods! You know why? Because it increases the risk of headaches, seizures, heart palpitations, depression, slurred speech, loss of memory, loss of sensation in lower legs, loss of equilibrium, vertigo, anxiety attacks, chronic fatigue, vision loss, etc. How nice is that? Now you can stop worrying because even if you might be killing yourself with Aspartame poisoning, you should be happy knowing that at least you are going to reach your destination in one piece.

Now I know, in your mind you might be thinking well, diet drinks at least keep your weight in check! Right? Well, does it really?

Aspartame has actually been known to contribute to weight problem and obesity even though it is used in diet drinks. Of course it doesn’t cause over weight issues the same way that sugar does, but it causes obesity by creating some very harmful toxic materials in the body. It also makes you crave carbohydrates which makes you gain weight. These toxins are often stored by the body in fat particularly on the hips and thighs. Not surprising that millions of overweight people around the world are drinking diet Coke, Pepsi and other drinks for years and still not loosing any weight! In the famous book Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills, Russell Blaylock, a neurosurgeon, says aspartame may trigger clinical diabetes! He says that excitotoxins such as NutraSweet literally stimulate neurons to death, causing brain damage of varying degrees. “What really concerns me about aspartame,” he says, “is its association with brain tumors as well as pancreatic, uterine and ovarian tumors. … and that so many develop an Alzheimers-like syndrome with prolonged exposure.” Dr Blaylock also commented: "The new study released in the European Journal of oncology by Morando Soffritti and co-workers should terrify mothers and all those consuming aspartame sweetened products…”

"This study confirmed the previous study by Dr. Trocho and co-workers, which also found the formaldehyde breakdown product of aspartame to be damaging to cellular DNA and that this damage was accumulative. The type of damage was a duplicate of that associated with cancers. Along with this most recent study, this means that drinking a single diet cola sweetened with aspartame every day could increase one’s risk of developing a lymphoma or leukemia.”

Unfortunately, even as I write this today, millions of people around the world are sipping on their “sugar free” and “zero calorie” poison. Every year millions of dollars are spent on marketing and advertising diet drinks with slim and attractive women in on the billboards and TV. Little do the ignorant consumers realize that they are paying with their health, their children’s health, and their grandchildren’s health everyday to make people like Rumsfeld and companies like Searle and NutraSweet richer and richer. On the other hand people like me, Dr Betty Martini (who is the world leader in exposing the ill effects of chemical sweeteners) and hundreds of others are trying their best to reach as many people as possible around the world. But we are up against billions of dollars worth combined advertising and marketing budget of the diet drink companies, processed food companies etc.

How much chance do we have to break through the noise of these mega budget campaigns? I don’t know. But I would like to believe that we are making a difference… That you would read this letter today and never touch any aspartame related product ever again. That you would take the initiative to tell as many people as you can in person, on the phone, via email, in the next office meeting or whatever else you can think of. If you do that, we take a step forward and we shall win. If you don’t, then all of this effort is worthless.

Think about it.

Discover How To Cure Heartburn Naturally Without ANY Side Effects

Have you ever wondered if what you know about Heartburn is accurate?

The information presented here will do one of two things: it will either reinforce what you know about Heartburn or, teach you something new. Both are good outcomes.

Heartburn is extremely uncomfortable and it’s not always clear what causes it.

Some people say ‘don’t eat so much’ or ‘don’t eat so fast’. Other like to blame spicy foods such as hot curries or Cajun seasonings; others cite grapefruits, oranges and antacids or acid suppressors like ranitidine, omeprazole or cimetidine.

But the long-term goal here, is, to pinpoint - and avoid - your personal heartburn triggers.

Here are 10 quick steps that will help you do that:

1) Stay upright, no matter how bad you feel. If you’re standing, gravity helps to keep acid in your stomach.

2) Avoid bending over after a meal, and definitely don’t lie down.

3) Drink a large glass of water as soon as you feel the telltale flicker of a heartburn. The water will wash the acid back down your oesophagus and into your stomach.

4) Drink heartburn-easing tea. Add a teaspoon of freshly grated root ginger to a cup of boiling water, steep for 10 minutes, and drink. Long used to quell the nausea caused by motion sickness, ginger also helps to relax the muscles that line the walls of the oesophagus, so stomach acid doesn’t get pushed upwards. ( A tea made from anise, caraway or fennel seed can also ease the burn, according to herbalists. Add 2 teaspoons of any one of them to a cup of boiling water, allow to infuse for 10 minutes, strain and drink. Add a teaspoon of powdered bark into a cup of hot water and drink a few cups throughout the day.)

5) Chew on a piece of sugar-free gum, or daydream about juicy steaks or buttery new potatoes - whatever it takes to get you to generate and swallow extra saliva.Saliva helps to neutralize stomach acid.

6) Take in the juices of vegetables likes carrots, cucumbers, radishes or beetroot. They help to tame the acid in the stomach due to their alkaline nature. Feel free to add a pinch of salt and pepper for flavour. If juicing vegetables is inconvenient or doesn’t appeal to you, just eat the vegetables raw.

7) Mix half a teaspoon of bicarb and a few drops of lemon juice in half a cup of warm water. Don’t drink the diluted bicarb on its own: you need the lemon juice to dispel some of the gas which bicarb creates in the stomach when it comes into contact with stomach acid.

8) Try a glass of whole milk. It’s not just good for your bones!

9) Eat a whole apple! This helps most but not all people.

10) Chew antacids, such as Tums or Rolaids, or drink Pepto-Bismol. These almost always help heartburn, though you may need to eat two. Also helps with calcium intake!

Think about what you’ve read so far. Does it reinforce what you already know about Heartburn? or, was there something completely new?

What about the remaining paragraphs?

Some additional tips:

If night time heartburn plagues you, eat your meals at least two to three hours before you go to bed. The added time will give acid levels a chance to decrease before you lie down. You might also raise the head of your bed 10-15cm with large wooden blocks or old phone books.

When you sleep tilted at an angle, gravity helps to keep acid in the stomach. Try sleeping on your left side. When you lie on your left side, the stomach hangs down and fluids pool along the greater curvature, away from the lower oesophagus sphincter. Polled fluids thus say farther away from the oesophagus.

Eat smaller, more frequent meals to minimize the production of stomach acid. And avoid eating too much in one sitting; doing so can force open the lower oesophageal sphincter, the thick ring of muscle that separates the stomach from the oesophagus and keeps stomach acid where it belongs.

If you haven’t done so already, give up cigarettes. Research shows that smoking relaxes the lower oesophageal sphincter. Breathing secondhand smoke is almost as bad, so stay away from smoky pubs, too.

Warnings:

When heartburn symptoms become severe, keep you up at night, or occur at least twice a week, you may have Acid Reflux Disease, which if not controlled can lead to esophageal cancer.

If it persists, it is advisable to see a Doctor.

If you experience discolored, cold, and/or clammy skin, in addition to rapid heartbeat, seek medical attention immediately, as this not Heartburn, but rather a Heart Attack.

Try This… Find out how to CURE chronic heartburn and acid reflux naturally once and for all!

Avandia Side Effects - Diabetes, PPH and Hypoglycemia

First approved by the Food and Drug Administration in 1999 to treat type II, or adult onset diabetes, Avandia became one of the most popular drugs for the pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline. It works by allowing the body to use insulin it produces to control the levels of blood sugar in the liver and prevent the serious and potentially fatal aspects of this condition that affects almost 16 million adults in the United States.

Unfortunately, Avandia has been linked to a number of serious side effects of its own. From as early as 2003, medical experts at the Mayo Clinic discovered that Avandia was linked to six cases of congestive heart failure in elderly men undergoing treatment for type II diabetes. These men experienced symptoms of weight gain, swelling of the extremities, shortness of breath, and fluid in the lungs, which all occur when the heart can no longer pump blood through the circulatory system which can cause fluid build up in the body.

Liver problems are also associated with Avandis. It can possibly result in jaundice (or the yellowing of eyes and skin due to the build up of bilirubin in the body), fatigue, vomiting, stomach pain, and nausea.

Avandis is also suspected of causing a condition called Primary Pulmonary Hypertension, or PPH. PPH is caused when blood vessels narrow which then increase blood pressure. High blood pressure can result in a number of serious complications such as shortness of breath, fainting, dizziness, and even heart failure.

Additionally, Avandis is linked to hypoglycemia, or the lack of sugar in the blood. Without blood sugar the body cannot function, and can cause a number of extremely dangerous side effects to occur such as accelerated heart rate, headache, sweating, fatigue, weakness, and dizziness.

GlaxoSmithKline, along with the FDA, sent a letter to healthcare professionals in December 2005 to alert them about the possibility of peripheral edema (swelling of the extremities) and macular edema (the buildup of fluid and protein in the eye that can severely impair vision.)
